Springfield Park Hoop Shelter

Hoop Shelter installed in a new park in a new borough of London – Springfield. The former sprawling NHS site is being transformed with two new NHS facilities, lots of housing, shops and green spaces. The park is due to open in the spring of 2024.

The Hoop for this project has been slightly redesigned, with more cladding around the front and without the fins that have previously projected infront and behind the shelter. We have also increased the Douglas Fir timber cladding and added some steambent oak details to the edges of the cladding.

The simpler form made the delivery and installation easier and only required one person to attend site. So I loaded up my panniers with all the tools i needed and a few extras just in case and took an early train to London, an hour of cycling across the city on the expanding cycle network got me safely to site.

Thanks to Joe Tennor for CAD design, Rollmaster rings for steel rolling, Tyree Fabrications for the metalwork, Humber Galvanising and Express coatings for galvanising and powder coating, the Handspring team for adding the timber during some wild weather and Askeys Transport for delivering the Hoop to site.
