First of a pair of Birds Nest Shelters we have just finished. The one above is in Didcot near Oxford and the second, below, is in Winchburgh near Edinburgh. Whilst still very rare they are slowly gaining a foothold around the edges of new parks.
The roofs, as with the rest of the shelter are made with a Douglas Fir frame and then topped with coloured cast acrylic sheet. The previous ones we made had wildflower meadow roofs. Each panel could be a different colour but its hard to not fall in love with the burnt orange. Looking up at the roof leaves me with a Japanese screen flavour, and maybe the whole shelter has a bit of an oriental park pagoda vibe.
