Habitat Poles and Clusters.
Nature positive sculpture.
We have just designed, made and delivered a series of Habitat Cluster Posts, Bug Habitat poles, individual boxes and a W bug house letter to a revitalised pocket park in the middle of Watord, next to St Marys Church. The boxes will hopefully provide lofty homes for birds, bats, butterflies and bugs. installed pictures to follow.
We see these as part sculpture, part habitat and part awareness raising to the urgent need to provide space for nature. Maybe they will individually provide homes for wildlife but hopefully they will also raise our collective consciousness to the necessity to include wild spaces in our lives and local environments.
With this in mind and to hopefully avoid them just being ‘greenwash’ Handspring supports a number of amazing UK and global organisations who are focused on nature based solutions. These include:
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust: one of the UK’s 46 county-based Wildlife Trusts. Its focus is nature conservation and it works to achieve a nature-rich Yorkshire with healthy and resilient ecosystems that support both Yorkshire’s wildlife and its people.
Woodland Trust: Fights to protect woods and trees, preventing the loss of irreplaceable habitat, nature and carbon stores for a healthier future for everyone.
Trees for Life: Stands at the forefront of rewilding in the Scottish Highlands. Hopeful and bold, we are committed to creating nature-rich landscapes that include and support people. Working on a grand scale, we aim to close the gap between people and nature. Focusing on Scotland’s spectacular Caledonian forest, we foster biodiversity and encourage natural processes essential to life. From the iconic red squirrel to the elusive lynx, we are working to bring more life back to our landscapes.
Mossy Earth: Our team shares a passion for the outdoors and the preservation of our natural world. As such, we work with one mission in mind, to restore wild ecosystems, support wildlife and biodiversity and help fight climate change.
Planet Wild: Planet Wild is a nature protection organisation, building a global community of people that care deeply about the planet and want to give back to nature.
Justdiggit: is a grassroots organisation that fights global warming by re-greening African landscapes.
Heal: long-term plan is to create a Heal rewilding site in every English county by 2050, together covering almost 25,000 acres
Wild Card is a grassroots movement challenging Britain’s biggest landowners to rewild their land before it’s too late
Beaver Trust: We provide practical solutions to help people live alongside beavers and support legislation that rebuilds ecosystems and strengthens climate resilience in a time of ecological and climate crisis.
Thousand Year Trust: We are on a mission to catalyse the movement to triple the amount of temperate rainforest growing across the UK over the next thirty years.
